Ben: I never thought I’d show my best friend this side of me, but I had to take my one shot or regret it forever.

Luc: It was only supposed to be one night of something I didn’t understand and never wanted, but it became so much more.

Georgie: They want me to choose, but I want them both. They just have to admit they want it too.

The thing about us? We can make it work...even if we have to fight to keep it together.

Luc stands and walks across the office to shut the door. When he returns, he crouches down in front of me right between my legs. “Georgie’s going out of town for three days for work. I think you and I need to spend time together and talk through some things. I want us to feel comfortable and confident with each other whether she’s with us or not. It’s important to me, Ben. You’re important to me.”
I search his eyes, desperate to kiss him. I try to look away, but he grips my chin, pulling my face back to his. “Stop, Luc.”
“What’s wrong right now?”
“What’s wrong? I want to fucking kiss you. That’s what’s wrong.”
He smiles. “There’s nothing wrong with that.”
“We’re at work and it’s complicated now.”
He grips the back of my neck and pulls me close, pressing his lips on mine. When his tongue meets mine, I exhale slowly, as if I just received a life-saving injection. He always has this effect on me. I wrap my arms around his neck, sliding my fingers into his hair. When he pulls back slightly, I don’t want it to end, but I know it has to.
Luc presses his forehead to mine, then leans back so our eyes can meet. “Nothing complicated about that is there?”
I shake my head. “No.”
“We’re attracted to each other, Ben. That’s just the bloody truth. We’ll deal with it. There’s a way for us to have our cake. What’s wrong with two mates having a go every now and then?”
“Do you mean that?”
“Did I just kiss you? Is Georgie here pushing me or did I initiate it on my own?”
“It’s not because…I don’t know…maybe you’re taking pity on me because you know how bad I want you.”
He grabs my shoulders. “Stop it. What man do you know, including yourself, would kiss another man out of pity? Give me some fucking credit, Ben. You’re not a fucking charity case. You’re my best and closest mate, and somehow, a different bond has developed. Don’t sell either of us short. It’s real.”

Excerpt

Once the last two fans left, the guys walked toward the door, eager to get ready to take the stage.
“Treyton,” I called with conviction in my tone.
The guys all mumbled as they walked out of the room with Trey trailing behind them.
Son of a bitch.
I dragged in a deep breath, then stormed out of the room, stalking backstage where everyone grabbed food or drinks. I walked right up to Trey whose back was to me and stepped in front of him. “You heard me.”
His brows squished together.
“You’re acting like a child. Act like a man.”
He grabbed my arm roughly and pulled me out of the room and into a hallway, slamming the door behind us. He walked into me so I needed to step back, right into the wall. He caged me in, his hands pressing to the wall above my head. And just like he had the other night on his bus, he slanted his head so our faces were close. “Fuck me?” he asked, questioning my words.
I swallowed hard. Having him that close was daunting, even if I was pissed at him. I remained focused and angry. Because I was. How dare he ignore me?
He shifted his hips, his erection pressing into my stomach. “Does a child feel like this?”
Though the intrusion sent zingers through me, I couldn’t let that distract me. “Stop.”
“Stop what?”
“Stop using your body to try to make me lose focus.”
He smirked, an evil glint in his eyes. “Is that what I do to you?”
“No, you piss me off.”

Excerpt

Before I can turn around, I feel him at my back and a chill creeps up my neck. His hands grip my arms and his hard chest pressing against my shoulders feels like the safest place on Earth. He leans his head down and puts his lips at my ear. “I wish you didn’t have to leave.”
My heart skips a beat and then thrums wildly. There’s no way out of visiting my parents at this point. “Me too. But we still have a little time together. Thanksgiv—” I scoff when I realize my assumption.
“Of course, I want to spend Thanksgiving with you.”
I grin, though he can’t see it. “I have to admit…it will be tough being away.”
He runs his hands down my arms before slipping one around my middle. “How long?”
“I’ll probably be there a couple weeks, home a little after Christmas maybe.”
I try not to flinch when his hand slides beneath the hem of my sweater and skates across my bare skin. “I can wait, Mollie. If that’s what you want.”
I don’t want to wait, but I can’t get any words out.
“You said we should go slow. Get to know each other. Be open.” He brushes my hair to the side, exposing my neck. “I may not know everything about you, Mollie. But I know you. I know your heart and your will and your determination…and your vulnerability.” He places soft kisses at the top of my shoulder, searing my skin. In between kisses, his voice is velvet. “I’m not sure how it happened, but I feel like I’ve known you my whole life.”
I wrap my arm around his neck and let out a soft sigh. “I want you to know it all.” Turning my head to the side, I part my lips, calling his to mine. “To have it all.”
He wastes no time joining our mouths and stealing my breath with his warmth. A warmth that quickly turns to fire as we taste each other with soft slow nudges and nips.
Dizzy with need, I pull back to look in his eyes, breathing heavily. His hand cups my chin, keeping my face, my lips, close to his. “I might have some broken pieces that aren’t fully repaired…and I might have some blank spaces I can’t remember…but the rest is all yours.” He kisses me once, gently. “If you’ll have me.”

Review

This was my first story by Fairchild and she did not disappoint. Building Bridges is the first book in Fairchild's newest series Bridges Brothers. It's the perfect Contemporary Military Romance and will pull on those heartstrings as it has all the feels. At least it did for me. I love each and every character in this story and can't wait for more!

Logan served his country and never could have imagined he would be helping raise a house full of children. He's the second oldest of the four brothers. As Logan is thrown into this new life he has to deal with his own demons in the form of PTSD. He finds help in someone very unexpected.

Mollie and Logan have a past but watching them go through such an unimaginable loss she just couldn't handle. She's got a sassy independence that's for sure. Mollie just fits so perfectly into the Bridges family. Like she should have always been there.

HEA for sure with this one even if it was a long hard road to get there.
